Romanesque cross church St. Marien Zahna

The Romanesque cruciform church with its massive tower was built in 978. In the 12th century, Flemish immigrants rebuilt the church, making it the oldest church in Fläming.

During the Saxon-Brandenburg War in the 15th century, it was destroyed in such a way that the side aisles, the 2 church towers and small side rooms were removed. The underground burial grounds were also looted and destroyed. In 1719, the church, like many of Zahna's houses, was badly burnt out by ball lightning. Extensive restoration work has been underway since 1994. A valuable discovery was made during the reconstruction of the floor. A grave slab was found, which is said to be that of the last ruler of Zahna, the knight Albrecht von Leipzig. Unfortunately, the grave was not found; it probably fell victim to looting in previous centuries. The Protestant church hosts musical concerts, such as performances by the Don Cossacks and many other artists.
