St. Mary's Church

UNESCO City Church of St. Mary

The former preaching church of Martin Luther and mother church of the Reformation is one of the tourist highlights of Lutherstadt Wittenberg.

The reformer Martin Luther once preached here. His pulpit has been preserved to this day and can be viewed in the Luther House. The famous Renaissance painter Lucas Cranach the Elder designed the Reformation altar, which you can admire on a guided tour of the town church. You will also discover valuable panel paintings by Cranach, the ornately decorated baptismal font by Hermann Vischer, the oldest piece in the church, as well as the magnificent organ and the sacristy with contemporary art.
