Pretzsch Castle

Pretzsch Castle Park

Pretzsch Castle Park was laid out as a baroque pleasure garden at the beginning of the 18th century for the Saxon Electress and Polish Queen Christiane Eberhardine.

In the upper area of the baroque garden, which was designed for garden lovers, there was a water basin with a fountain surrounded by elaborate ornamental beds and exotic potted plants. A large, sunken water basin was used by courtly society for enjoyable boat trips.

After the death of Augustus the Strong in 1733 - his wife had died six years earlier - the park was landscaped. Towards the end of the 18th century, the grounds developed into an English landscape park. The character of the baroque park has been restored in recent years. Idyllically situated between the Elbe floodplains and the Dübener Heide Nature Park, the park is ideal for long walks and a large lawn with an adventure playground for children to play in.
