Alter Krug Zossen

Museum and meeting place "Alter Krug"

The half-timbered house is the oldest building in the former colonist settlement in the vineyards near Zossen and houses a museum and the "Alter Krug" meeting place.

The cane-roofed building was built around 1750 and served as a residence for the royal forester Schandken. Settlement in the Zossen vineyards began around 1755. The local history association "Alter Krug" Zossen e. V. has meticulously documented the individual occupations of the first colonists. The exhibition rooms of the low half-timbered house contain evidence of local history.

A pub was probably operated in the house from 1780. It was a center of social life with monthly dances, celebrations and a bar. In 1890, the last operator - popularly known as "Krug-Lehmann" - had to close the business. In the 1980s, the district took over ownership of the listed building and restored it to its original state with the support of the local heritage association and many volunteers.
