Humboldt Forum

In the middle of Berlin, directly opposite Museum Island, a new urban experience has unfolded.

Embedded in the historical cityscape of Museum Island, Berlin Cathedral, Kronprinzenpalais and Nikolai Quarter, a new cosmopolitan forum for culture, art and science has been created.

Guests can expect two large new city squares that are open to urban life: the large Schlüterhof with restaurant, experience areas and visitBerlin Tourist Information, as well as the Passage, a wide collonade path that runs right through the building.

On the south side of the Humboldt Forum is a 28-metre-long video panorama that vividly conveys the historical development of the site - since the earliest evidence in the 12th century. Visitors can really immerse themselves in the history of the site in the palace cellar, where the remains of the medieval Dominican monastery and the foundations of the palace have been uncovered.

Berlin Global
On the second floor of the barrier-free building, the exhibition Berlin Global surprises visitors with a special view of Berlin: the focus here is not only on global developments that influenced and changed Berlin. It also asks what impact Berlin has had on the world and what impulses have emanated from this city.

The Humboldt Lab: a lively ideas workshop
The new Humboldt Lab, a project of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, is a workshop for anyone who wants to take part in the process of scientific research and discuss global problems and challenges: Climate change, environmental destruction, species extinction, major social ills. Right at the entrance to the Humboldt Lab, visitors can immerse themselves in the world of research via the large model of a school of fish, a symbol of swarm intelligence.

Not a conventional museum
New and unusual: the exhibitions also feature the work of contemporary artists who either relate directly to the objects on display or engage with them. The sound installations in a special elliptical listening room, which were created on the basis of ethnomusicological research, are also special.
