Düben Castle

Düben Castle Landscape Museum

In 16 rooms of the castle, visitors can learn interesting facts about the history and development of the town and region as well as the Düben Heath Nature Park.

The over 1000-year-old castle with the "Lug ins Land" lookout tower and the castle guard's house served to monitor and protect the old trade route at the Mulde crossing. The Bergschiffmühle mill is located in the former moat. Napoleon's presence is commemorated by the Napoleon Stone and a plaque on the castle tower.

Tower "Lug ins Land"
Built around 1206 on old stone foundations, the tower is the oldest castle building still standing today. It is the only gate tower in the region.
It houses a dungeon associated with one of the last witch trials in central Germany and the courtroom where the legendary atonement hearing with Hans Kohlhase took place in 1534.
