Bad Schmiedeberg

The moorland of the Düben Heath enabled Bad Schmiedeberg to become a health resort.

The Eisenmoorbad spa center was founded in 1878 and a new spa building was built in 1908. Schmiedeberg has held the title of "spa" since 1925.
The Art Nouveau spa house, attractive villas, the elegant Kurmittelhaus, stylish guest houses, Kneipp facilities and drinking temples give the state-approved mud, mineral and Kneipp spa its face.

Whether by car, bike or on foot, there is something for everyone to discover. Follow in Luther's footsteps or visit the numerous churches in which the reformer preached, marvel at Germany's oldest boat church on the Elbe cycle path in Priesitz, visit the residence of Augustus the Strong's wife, Electress Christiane Eberhardine, in the imposing Renaissance castle of Pretzsch and take a look inside the associated court church (designed by the architect Pöppelmann). All of this is possible in and around Bad Schmiederbg.

In Bad Schmiedeberg's town forest, the Kaiser Wilhelm Tower offers a unique view of the Düben Heath and the Elbe Valley. Reinharz, a district of Bad Schmiedeberg, is also a particularly attractive starting point. The 68-metre-high tower of the moated castle, which was built between 1690 and 1701, can be seen from afar.
