Museum Island

The UNESCO World Heritage Site in Berlin's historic center.

Museum Island Berlin is a magnificent work of art: five world-famous museum buildings from the time of the Prussian rulers, together with the modern James-Simon-Galerie, form an exciting ensemble that was awarded the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. In 1999, the so-called Museum Island Master Plan was also adopted, the centerpiece of which will be an underground connection between the museum buildings: the Archaeological Promenade.

The five museums on Museum Island Berlin:

  • Pergamon Museum: Collection of Classical Antiquities, Museum of the Ancient Near East and Museum of Islamic Art
  • Bode Museum: unique sculpture collection with works from the Middle Ages to the 19th century
  • New Museum: exhibits from the Egyptian Museum, the Museum of Prehistory and Early History and the Collection of Classical Antiquities
  • Old National Gallery: paintings and sculptures from Classicism, the Romanesque period, Biedermeier, Impressionism and early Modernism
  • Old Museum: masterpieces of classical antiquity
