Museum in the arsenal

Discover the permanent exhibition of the municipal collections on more than 700 years of the city's history on a total of three floors.

Lutherstadt Wittenberg can look back on more than 700 years of city history. Since the end of 2018, this has been presented on three floors in the reopened permanent exhibition of the municipal collections in the Museum im Zeughaus: On the first floor, the so-called crown jewels illustrate individual aspects of the town's history, while a model of the town shows the fortified garrison town of Wittenberg in 1873. On the upper floor, the settlement of the countryside thousands of years ago and the town's history from the 13th century to the present day are presented. The top floor is reserved for "Riemer's World". Exhibits by the collector Julius Riemer showcase the wealth of natural history and ethnology on all continents.

Special highlights of the exhibition are the Cranach paintings with portraits of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon as well as a model of Wittenberg from 1873.
