Blankenfelde village smithy

Blankenfelde village smithy

The Blankenfeld village smithy stands directly on the village green not far from the village church.

It is probably the second oldest surviving building in the village after the church. It is assumed that the smithy was built around 1540. Over the centuries, various extensions were added to the building and it was constantly modernized. The smithy was in operation until the 1960s. After that, the building was left to decay, although it was already a listed building. A working group resisted demolition efforts and began restoration work in the 1980s. In 1995, the forge was completely reconstructed and renovated true to the original with the help of state funds. Since summer 2019, the forge has also been back in operation for its original purpose. The blacksmith Werner Mohrmann-Dressel has his studio in the forge and produces contemporary objects, sculptures, utensils and much more using old and new techniques.
