Floating vacation homes at the Bergwitzsee Resort

Bergwitz Lake

Back in the 1960s, an idyllic post-mining lake was created from the former "Roberts Hoffnung" open-cast mine.

Lake Bergwitz is located south of Lutherstadt Wittenberg on the edge of the Düben Heath. Sailors, surfers, stand-up paddlers and many swimmers can be found here on around 180 hectares of water.

Lake Bergwitz has its origins in the "Roberts Hoffnung" open-cast mine. Work to develop the open-cast lignite mine began in 1908 and Germany's first bucket-wheel excavator went into operation here in 1916. 20 years later, the company was recognized as the most modern in Germany. The mine closed in 1955. The flooding created Lake Bergwitz. Today, seven springs feed the lake with clear water and guarantee excellent water quality.

There has been a campsite directly on Bergwitzsee since 1963. The Bergwitzsee Resort has modern facilities and its own boat hire. The floating vacation homes are a particular highlight.

There are various beaches at Bergwitzsee for sunbathing - so there's the right bathing spot for everyone! On the northern shore there is a textile bathing beach with beach volleyball, natural playground, WC, snack bar and barrier-free beach access. There is another textile beach on the eastern shore of the lake. Nudist beaches are located on the south-eastern shore and on the peninsula in the south of the Bergwitzsee. Visitors with dogs are well catered for at the dog bathing beach on the north-eastern shore and there is lake access for horses on the south-eastern shore.
